A study of 1 Samuel. Real people. Real struggles. A real God.
First Samuel is a book about who gets to be king. And it answers that question by watching God bring down the people who grab, and lift up the people who wait.

The sessions
- 1Two Kinds of BarrennessFirst Samuel opens a book about kings with a childless woman in an obscure town. Hannah's prayer and her song set the pattern for everything that follows, while Eli's sons empty the sanctuary of its meaning and a boy learns to say, "Speak, LORD."1 Samuel 1-3
- 2You Can't Carry God into BattleIsrael loses a battle, asks the right question, and fetches the ark without waiting for an answer. The ark is captured, God humbles Dagon on his own, and twenty years later at Mizpah Israel finally turns back to him.1 Samuel 4-7
- 3Give Us a KingSamuel's sons take bribes, and the elders answer a real problem by asking for a king like the nations have. Samuel warns them what a king will take, God gives them Saul, and the new king is found hiding in the baggage.1 Samuel 8-10
- 4A Good StartNahash besieges Jabesh, the Spirit rushes on Saul, and the new king wins and then shows mercy to the men who doubted him. Samuel's farewell and the thunder at harvest leave Israel with a warning and a promise: do not turn aside, for the LORD will not forsake his people.1 Samuel 11-12
